• The first Bell telephone company started in 1878. This is now known as the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T), which was incorporated in 1885.

All the phone lines in the area were connected to the main phone in the Country Store.  The owner would switch lines so that you can talk to others in the area.

"Two longs and a short" was your phone number.  Each family had a distinctive ring.
