A Stitch in time saves Nine!

Sewing was a normal way of life.  All your clothes had to be made and later on, stitched up for repair.

Companies like Clark's O.N.T. Thread and Lily Mercerized Sewing Thread supplied all the needed materials. The Boye Needle Co. had a large assortment of needles and other sewing products.

The 'stitch in time' is simply the prompt sewing up of a small hole or tear in a piece of material, so saving the need for more stitching at a later date when the hole has become larger.
